Favor Desserts was established in July 2004 in Durham, North Carolina by Master Baker Keijuane Hester and continues to serve the Triangle area and beyond. While offering the traditional baker's products, we are known for our Red Velvet cupcakes, 5-Flavored pound cake, Carrot cake, and Italian Creme cake, just to name a few.
KEIJUANE HESTER:
Keijuane Hester, also known as “The Cake Man” is a well known baker, entrepreneur and motivational speaker. He has been featured in several news articles and reports for his transformational life story. A native of Durham, NC, Keijuane was educated in the Durham Public schools and graduated from Hillside High School in 1994. After high school, Keijuane found himself on the wrong side of the law as a drug dealer. He served four years in prison for saling cocaine. While in prison, he reluctantly worked in the kitchen, where he eventually learned to bake. Coming out of jail with only a carrot cake recipe, who knew what the future held for him.
After several failed attempts of finding consistent employment, he went back to the streets; not with cocaine but with another drug of sort, his famous Five Flavor pound, Red Velvet and Carrot cakes. In 2004, out of his home, he opened Favor Desserts and sold cakes at local barbershops and hair salons. Having grown out of three different houses, in February, 2012, Keijuane opened a storefront bakery known as Favor Desserts Bakery and Coffee Shop, LLC. He services over 1000 customers a week and makes over 100 cake flavors. Customers cannot determine which flavor is their favorite anymore.
Keijuane draws from his life’s experiences and serves his community through his motivational speaking. He speaks to school age children about setting goals and dreams and achieving them. He speaks to inmates about making bad choices and turning their lives around. “It’s not the tool of baking I want to be known by. I want to be known by the transformation that has taken place in my life,” says Keijuane, who believes he wouldn’t be doing what he’s doing today if he hadn’t gotten locked up for selling drugs.
Keijuane believes that his mission in life is to show that somebody who had a negative past could turn around and have a productive life and make an honest living.
